Nuclear Series
"Reactor Kinetics - Temperature Feedback"
Aims :
- The purpose of this title to bring together the concepts of reactivity, neutron kinetics, reactivity temperature coefficients and reactor heat transfer in order to gain an understanding of their combined behaviour in AGR, Magnox and PWR cores.
Objectives :
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- State the factors influencing fuel temperature in Magnox Reactors, AGRs and PWRs and the magnitude of the time constant for changes in fuel temperature.
- State the time constant for changes in moderator temperatures in Magnox Reactors, AGRs and PWRs.
- Explain the factors influencing moderator temperatures in Magnox Reactors, AGRs and PWRs.
- Quote typical values of
and
for Magnox Reactors AGRs and PWRs as well as typical values of
for AGRs.
- Explain how a temperature coefficient leads to an inherent reactivity feedback loop in a reactor core.
- List the external influences on the parameters involved in temperature feedback.
- Infer the stability of a Magnox Reactor.
- Infer the nature of stability of an AGR.
- State the effect of boiler control on T1 and hence the stability of an AGR with changing T1.
- Infer the nature of stability of a PWR.
