Nuclear Series
"Radiation Quantities & Units"
Aims :
- To consider radiation quantities and units.
Objectives :
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Define the quantities: activity, absorbed dose, dose equivalent, committed dose equivalent, effective dose equivalent, committed effective dose equivalent.
- State the quality factors for the following: alpha particles, beta particles, gamma rays, X-rays and neutrons.
- Define the SI units: becquerel, gray, sievert.
- Calculate, given dose rates from different radiations, the dose equivalent to various parts of the body.
- Explain how to calculate the committed effective dose equivalent and describe how it is added to a person's dose record.
