Aims :
- To outline some of the basic materials and considerations which apply to a Power Station.
Objectives :
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Describe the three main forms of Interatomic bonding.
- Describe two types of structural defect commonly found within a crystalline structure.
- Describe three important tests which can be applied to constructional metals, and how they relate to the mechanical properties of the metals.
- Specify the major materials used in core components of Magnox, AGRs and PWRs.
- Describe the 5 main factors which affect materials used in nuclear reactors.
- State the effects of fast neutron irradiation on the mechanical properties of metals.
