"Moderation"
Aims :
- To investigate the moderation process.
Objectives :
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Explain what is meant by moderation.
- List and explain the essential properties of an ideal moderator.
- Identify possible moderating materials given a list of nuclides, and combination of nuclides, together with their properties.
- Compare light water, heavy water and graphite as moderating materials using the expression 'moderating ratio'.
- Briefly explain what is meant by: thermal neutron, mean free path, slowing down length, diffusion length and migration length.
