Nuclear Series
"Chain Reactions"
Aims :
- To provide an understanding of a chain reaction and to examine the basic requirements for a self-sustaining chain reaction in uranium.
Objectives :
By the end of this course the student will be able to:
- Define multiplication constant and relate its values: less than 1, 1, greater than 1, to the condition of a reactor.
- Calculate and interpret the value of k infinity for a system containing fast neutrons and uranium.
- State two methods of increasing this value.
Course Modules:
Neutron Balance
Multiplication Constant k
Cross-Section Values for Natural Uranium
Sustaining the Chain Reaction
